XP & copying files- not familiar w/ XP at all

My mom's got XP on her HP computer. She is having problems w/ the internet- so in calling the help line & getting the 10 person help chain... she was then told that she would have to copy all of her files (not software) to a disk in order to fix her computer (since they think it's an HP software problem). Now- here's the deal. She's not very computer literate & she's got me on the phone & asking me questions. I deal w/ Windows 2000, so I have no clue about XP. I told her to ctrl+click on all of her folders & then either "send to" or "copy to" the CD. She said that selecting them w/ the ctrl+click made a new copy of every folder selected... no clue why. Any shortcuts on moving all folders over to CD in order to burn it without having to move each individual folder...?

TIA!! cass

if they are going to do a reinstall she can probably use the 'file and
settings transfer wizard' that will take her desktop and 'my documents'
stuff and some other stuff and save it all together. that file can then be
copied to a cd (if it fits) and used to restore her stuff after they
reinstall. note that the transfer wizard does not take data that may be in
unique places, like under application directories.

Thanks David-- It's so hard doing this over the phone as I am a visual person--- so I may go this afteroon to help her out if she can't run this 'wizard' you suggested
I appreciate the info! :) cas
