XP command line

I have a simple, beginner's question. I have a Vista computer wired to an XP
PC.
On the Vista machine when I do the WindowsKey+R, cmd, I get the command
line box come up and can enter the ping, ipcongfig, etc. commands -- The box
stays there and I can see the results.
On the XP PC, however, when I do the same thing I get the command box, but
when I type in a command such as ipconifg, I get a response that ipconfig,
ping, etc. is not a valid command. If I type the command from the Run box,
it executes, but the results flash by too fast to read them. I tried using
some parameters like the /P (pause) that used to go with DOS commands, but to
no avail. Scroll lock didn't help. Why the differences from Vista to XP?
Is it the age of the system32 command file? How can I get to see the results
on my XP PC?

Oops! I figured it out. Told you it was simple. You have to be in the
system32 directory when you issue the commands. Working fine now.

Thank you for update. Another option is use set to set path point to the system32.

Oops! I figured it out. Told you it was simple. You have to be in the
