XP client unable to locate Windows 2K domain

We have just installed a Dell 600sc PowerEdge server
running Windows 2000 server. Windows XP pro clients were
initially added to the domain and logged in successfully,
but they lost connection with the domain controller after
about 10 min. or so. They are unable to log back into the
domain, and receive an error stating unable to locate a
domain controller. Re-booting the server does not help.
The only way to re-connect the clients is to remove them
from the domain (from the client workstation) and re-join
the domain. but after a few minutes they are not able to
login again...any ideas?

The 2K server is not running DHCP or DNS.

OK, I feel pretty dumb right now! Did I mention that I've
been away from this for about a year?

Thanks, John
