XP clean re-install will not see new hard drives

Hello,
I just upgraded my system to an Asus system using AMD dual core. I have 2
HDD. Here is what I have in HDD:
My C drive is (200 Gig) 186 Gig - NTFS
used 22.7 G
Free 163 G
---
D drive is (400 Gig) 333 Gig - NTFS
1.07 G used
Free 332 G
--
I unfortunetly had an error this AM where the registry hive got toasted,
so.. to make a long story even longer... Since there was that error, and it
is a new system, and I really don't have anything loaded yet, I wanted to
start fresh again. I chose to do a clean reinstall of XP.
When I got to the part of seeing my C drive, this is what was seen:

Unknown Disk
There is no disk in this drive
131072MB @ ID 0 on Bus 0 on atapi [ MBR ]
--
C drive - Partition 1
Unknown Partition
131072MB Free

HUMMMM... not right! Didn't see the 200Gig C drive AND it didnt see my
400 gig D drive.
What is going on here? This is VERY VERY weird!

TIA for any help you can give!

Perhaps you need to F6 during the install to load drivers from floppy, as is
sometimes required if they are sata drives or connected to a sata/raid
controler.
If this is not the case, they are detected in the bios?

Hello DL,

I took my machine back to the tech, and he showed me what I was doing wrong.
And YES, this new system does make use of the raid controller F6.
I have never used that in all my years of working and playing on computers.
I had a great and interesting lesson yesterday :)

Thank you for your response!
a VERY happy Patti :)
