XP Certificate of Authenticity

I have purchased a Certificate of Authenticity for
Windows XP off the internet and it showed up scotch
tapped to a install manual.

We always get XP PRO installed on our computers but I am
building a server from scratch and thought this would be
a cost effective way get an authentic XP liscence onto it.

Using one of our other install CD's I began the
installation process and got to the point where you enter
the Product Key. The software will not take the key.

Is there a way for me to tell if the key is a pirate? Do
I need a special OEM install CD to do what I am trying to
do? Is this not the correct way to use this Product key
and Certificate of Authenticity?

Any info appreciated.

You need to contact the seller of the COA and
ask them which Windows XP CD you need to use.
One cannot determine this from the COA. This is
but one reason purchasing a COA without the
corresponding Windows XP installation CD is
rather risky. I would venture to guess that you
would probably need an OEM Windows XP CD.
In any event, only the seller from whom you purchased
the COA can best assist you with resolving your dilemma.

Thanks for the response. I did read that and I don't
think its the problem. However, I did reach on the
sticker that it says WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL 1-2 CPU SONY
CORPORATION.

I am not installing onto a Sony PC so could that cause a
conflict?

The problem is you need to find out from the
seller what Windows XP CD is required. Ask
them to send you the CD. If they won't, request
a refund because your COA is useless without
the correct Windows XP installation CD.

Greetings --

Well, are you using a Sony OEM installation CD designed for the
specific model Sony computer to which that Product Key is assigned?
IOW, you've been ripped off.
