Authentication Certificate

Ed

I have been using XP for a year now. I have just
purchased a new PC and I'm trying to install XP on it.
This will become my sole machine.

Unfortunately I've lost my authentication certificate and
can't locate my product Id to complete installation.

Can anyone suggest how I can obtain my original product
Id from Microsoft or obtain a new one?

Many thanks, Ed

Ed,

Did Window XP come preinstalled the now old PC or is it an OEM copy you
purchased yourself.
In either case it is not allowed to be moved from the machine it shipped
with or the first machine installed to - if OEM.
This is one of the reasons the OEM product is cheaper then eh full retail
product. It is called a one time use license.

If your Windows XP is a full retail product then the Product Key you need is
on the back of the big blue (for Professional) or green (for Home) tri part
folder out folder in the retail box - on a yellow label.

The fact you mention the COA implies this an OEM issue and thus you will
need to purchase a new copy of Window XP for your new PC.

Thanks for the response - I actually purchased a full
retail version but have lost the authentication
certificate and product Id. My system has failed and I
am unable to intall XP on my new machine. I was hoping
that Microsoft would be able to advise me what my code
was - if they hold this information.

After you download the ViewKeyXP.zip file below, you can simply select open and then click on the ViewKeyXP.exe file to view your encrypted CD Key. If you would like to save the file to your hard drive, select save and designate the location.

If your system came pre-installed with XP, the Key that ViewKeyXP retrieves may be the Key the OEM uses to install and not the Key you need to reinstall. If you reinstalled XP since the initial setup, the CD key will be the valid key supplied with the computer

Download ViewKeyX

To view your key from Internet Explorer; click this link [Keyfinder] and select open from the file download options. To save to disk; choose save. If using Netscape, in the save window, right click with mouse pointer over keyfinder.exe and select open from the menu
