xp boot problems

i'm using xp but when i start the pc it only goes as far as the xp loading
screen.i've tried going into the bios settings and using the last known good
configuration but it still won't boot up and i don't have any discs.if any
one has any answers could they please help. thanks

unplug all peripherals (especially usb hardware)... just have the screen -
mouse - keyboard connected.

Does that work?

Try repeatedly pressing the F8 key before windows xp shows the logo. Choose
"safe mode"

I,ve unpluged everything but it still won't work,when i select safe mode
nothing happens.it still goes back to the windows splash screen.thanks any way
