XP Background Functions - TIA

I'm trying to identify what process/function XP is running in the background
that is interfering with an application I'm trying to run. Whatever XP is
doing seems to be happening every 45 to 60 minutes. It may be happening
more frequently but only hogs enough cycles to interfere with my application
sporadically. I've checked out Indexing and have that turned off. Are
there any other things I should be checking?
