XP Back Ups

I am trying to set an automatic backup but because I did not use a password,
it will not backup. That is the error message I get, anyway. I've tried to
go back and set a password but when I do then I don't have the authority to
backup. Now what?
 
Are we to guess what backup program you are using? And we need to know
the complete, exact text of any error messages you are seeing. It
wouldn't kill you to let us know what version of Windows you have
(including the service pack number.)
