I have 2 laptop computers, 1 with XP Pro and the other run
Win 98. I want to transfer some large files from the Win
98 machine to the XP machine.

I have set up a direct link using a null modem cable and
the connection appears to be OK. Both computers say they
are connected. However, I can't see the folders/files I
want to copy from one laptop to the other. Where should
these remote folders show up ?

Thanks

This is just a suggestion, but have you set up the folders to be shared? If
not, you won't see them. As well, you may have trouble with the Win98 system
seeing the WinXP one if they are different filesystems, I think. I recall
when I transferred files from my old Win98 (FAT32) to my new WinXP (NTFS),
my WinXP system could see the Win98 one and the shared folders/files okay,
but the Win98 one could not view the WinXP one. I assumed then that the
reason was the filesystem difference.

Thanks for the reply.

I have set sharing on the win98 system but I can't see the
folders on the XP system. Where should they show up ? I
looked in Network Neighborhood and My Computer but no
luck...

You might have some luck reading this info (and related links):

I'm not, in any way, an expert on the subject, so I don't want to lead you
wrong by giving haphazard advice. However, the above site may clue you into
where you are going wrong. Good luck.
