xp and stand by

I have a Dell computer that came with XP home addition.
About have the time when I try to put it in STAND BY it
won't go and the rest of the time if you touch the
computer desk ever so lightly the computer boots up. Can
anyone please tell me how to correct this other than
shutting the computer off completely each time I'm going
to be away a long time. Your help will be appreciated.

How about trying hibernation.When you go to turn off your system,go to stand
by and hold down the shift key,this will put the machine in to hibernation.
