Office needs to replace some of the files used when it runs under Windows 98
with specific ones and possibly additional one to support Windows XP.
Just supply the media and once it is done once it should ask no more.
Until you do this you may encounter unknown or sporadic problems and issues.

If you insPeter Hutchison
Windows FAQ
http://www.pcguru.plus.com/talled Office using 'Typical' settings,
then it will
partially install only Typical stuff. If you ask for new stuff
it will use Installer to configure the new stuff, just once (let it
do its job, it will do it for each comoponent of Office).

To cut this down, reinstall Office with Custom installation and tell
it which components to fully install and which NOT to install and NOT
from CD. It should reduce Installer dialogues...
