May not be an XP issue but I am now all of a sudden getting messages about
non-genuine Office software.

I have Office 2003 and FrontPage 2003 (separately), I also seem to recall
getting some updates for Office 2007, but I don't have Office 2007
installed. Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel has references to
Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 and
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage

What can I do to stop these annoying messages.
Can I delete Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage ?
Or will this delete
Word
Access
PowerPoint
etc.?

I don't even know where the install CD is

Or is there a registry fix?
Or can I stop the reminder program from loading

Q12: Why do I receive notifications to activate my product?

A12: If you do not activate an Office product, you receive a reminder to
activate your product every time that you start the program.

The reminder helps make sure that you are aware that license activation is
required and that you can complete the product activation process before the
program enters reduced-functionality mode.

Q17: How many times can I skip activation?

A17: For Product Trial Program license products, the Office programs run in
reduced-functionality mode the first time that the programs start. For
perpetual license products, you can skip product activation 25 times. If you
do not activate the product in the allocated number of program starts, the
2007 Office programs start to run in reduced-functionality mode.

MS has been, and presently are, looking to check for pirated Office Software,
amongst other things.

So, they are NOT annoying messages at all, unless you have pirated software.
Where did you acquire your Office 2003/Office XP Pro suite from?

And Office 2003 is different from Office XP.

Re offer of Office 2007 updates -

Do you have Web Components, Office Compatibility Pack or Office 2007 viewers
installed?

If you "....delete Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage...." then
you will be deleting Word, Access etc. and if you do that how will you
reinstall without a CD. Not a logical way of approaching the situation
really.

Hi Trevor,

The Office 2007 updates are because you installed the Compatibility Pack
for 2007, which allows MSO to read and write to the new MSO 2007 format
(doc to docx & xls to xlsx). If you don't have any reason to read or
write those formats, you can remove the Compatibility Pack and you won't
get notification regarding any MSO 2007 updates.

If you don't have your MSO 2003 CD, removing the older versions may
break the newer. So I would say leave it as is.

Others have talked about the non-genuine issue, so I won't add anything.

I think I can find the Office 2003 CD if it is still readable. But I think
it was Office XP Professional with FrontPage

FP2003 was obtained from the MSDN site when I was a FrontPage MVP and I
overwrote the older FP with it. If I didn't save this to a CD, then I
probably won't be able to reinstall as I no longer have access to the
download site

So if I remove both and reinstall, will I still get the nagging messages?
Or has MS somehow written something to the registry to say that I can't
reinstall. .

Not that I am aware. lf the names on "Add or Remove Programs" are prefixed
by Microsoft, I can confirm that none of these is installed.

OK, I can find the CD. But I wonder why I get the messages when using
FP2003.

I guess my main concern - not clearly stated - was whether Microsoft Office
XP Professional with FrontPage and FrontPage2003 are separate. I installed
the latter as a separate program downloaded from MSDN as part of my MVP
privileges, so I don't know why it is regarded as part of MS Office so far
as the messages from OGA/WGA are concerned. It shows separately in Add or
Remove, but if removing Office also removes FP2003, then I may not be able
to recover. After a complete search of my CD library, I find that all I have
is an ISO CD, but I have also found the Product Key, so maybe all is OK.

Trevor, if you're an MS MVP (who knew?), you can use one of your 2 (or is it
3?) annual complimentary Support Incidents for this.
