XP and Linksys wireless router

Yes I have tried plugging a cable in, like I said, it
works for my Win98 machine and XP directly to the modem.
I'm thinking there is a setup in network or something I am
missing, I just bought this computer and XP was upgraded
when I bought it. TCP-IP is on the
list with assign IP automatically, I've tried resetting
the router many times. The lights are green on my LAN
connection both the router and computer. When I open IE,
I can't acces 192.168.1.1 to setup the router. The CD
installation tells me the router is not connected.

see the original messages below...

Any idea?

I'm fed up, I've spent many hours trying to get this
working. My Win98 computer works fine with the router and
a cable. I now have another machine running XP. The XP
one will work connected directly to the DSL modem but will
not work connected to the router, WHY????

You don't give enough information to enable any real
assistance. All I
can suggest is maybe the obvious ... are you sure the
wireless card in
the XP machine is working? Have you tried connecting the
XP machine to
the Linksys box with a wire (make sure you pick the
correct point to
plug it into).

I'm not at my wireless XP machine right now, but check the
network connections to see if perhaps your wired
connection is still active and your wireless is inactive.

I'll try to remember to look at my wireless setup when I
get home tonight. I'm running the Linksys wireless router
also with a Linksys wireless nic in the XP box.

You may want to check to see if the router is
broadcasting its SSID, if it is check your wireless card
on the XP machine, it should see the SSID if not you can
enter the SSID at the device under advanced...I ahve the
same exact setup at my house and it works great, a word
of caution do not change firmware on your router, talk to
linksys first if you dont mind a long wait.

Another thing I forgot is:

From your wired connection, go to the wireless properties
of the router admin page and ensure the mac address of
your wireless adapter is allowed to access your network.

Don't give up!
