XP and IE problem

Hi all

I have a home network with 4 PCs connected:
1. Desktop with XP Pro
2. Laptop with XP Pro
3. Server with Server 2003
4. Laptop with XP Home

The server is set up to host a web page. I can connect to this web page with
the server and the two laptops, but not the desktop. I just get a page not
found error.

From the desktop, I can ping the server, connect using remote desktop and
also access shared folders, so I'm assuming the problem is an IE setting
somewhere?
I had this problem before, but it went away while I was changing other
things (no idea what though). However, this has returned now that I have
re-imaged this machine.

I'm using IE7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ok, I fixed it. I have to add an entry into the hosts file on the desktop.
If the address is www.mywebpage.net, and the server ip address is
192.168.1.8, I have to put the following in my hosts file:

192.168.1.8 www.mywebpage.net

Can anyone tell me why I have to have this? Is there a better way of setting
this up so that I don't have to add this entry into the hosts file of all the
computers on my network?

Thanks
