XP and IE became unstable after aditional memory was installed

I installed aditional memory so now I have 2 GB, but after that Xp became
unstable restarting sometimes, and IE also stops some times with errors. I
already checked memory with memtest and it shows no errors. I have also set
virtual memory to "managed by system" and reinstalled IE7, and OS became less
unstable but still restarts ocasionally, and IE7 sometimes closes with
errors. Can anybody give me hints, please?

You must add memory that is compatible with your computer. The major RAM
manufacturers, like Kingston, Crucial and others, provide RAM selectors
on their web sites which identify the exact memory that works with your
computer and guarantees that it will work.

Besides the memory being generally compatible with your computer, it is
usually a good idea to have all memory modules rated at the same speed.
While in theory the PC will chose the slowest speed supported by any memory
module, I would not count on that.

If you are pushing the PC near its maximum memory speed, then the precise
brand of memory may matter, or mixing brands may cause problems. This could
be even more of an issue if you are attempting to "over-clock".

There are free memory testors, but they usually test each module separately
and would not detect a problem between the modules. Still, here are few

The following free bootable CD includes several diagnostic programs,
including memory testers. Be sure to burn the ISO file to a CD using an
option like "burn-from-image", available in both Nero and Easy CD Creator.
Do not simply copy&paste an ISO file to a CD, or it will not work:

Friend had a similar problem recently....
Turned out that the memory modules were not fully seated in their slots
causing an intermittent "fault"..

Might be worth taking them out and re-seating them just to make sure of
full insertion.

Besides all the above mention of the RAM compatibilites (type, size,
speeds) you need to check with your motherboard's manufacturer so as
to see what is the MAX size of RAM your motherbaord can support.
Also, you might want to check for motherboard BIOS updates.
Motherboard manufacturer can, and do, publish BIOS updates for their
motherboards periodically. These update can fix problems (CPU access,
CPU speed, RAM controls) and the "fixes" should be listed in a
"README" for the BIOS update files.
