XP and dial up connection

I have a xp pro machine joined to a AD domain, have a
dialup connection to a private network with it's own DNS
server. When I use the dialup connection I get DNS error
cannot find server. When I do a IPCONFIG /all it shows
the IP address of the dialup DNS server but is apparently
not using that DNS server but the ones set up in the
network settings. The only work around I have found so
far is to join the machine to a dummy workgroup, reboot
and then dial out (what a pain). By the way this didnot
happen on our old NT domain. Has anyone heard of this and
know a workaround? Help!!!

Is the domain not connected to the Internet?

No, it's behind a firewall. This also happens if I
disconnect fron the network and try to dial my ISP.
