I have a new XP computer that we had set up to network
with two older computers running 98. When an installed
program did not work, HP had me do a non distructive
recovery. I have gotten everything back but my network.
We have installed, reinstalled, everything but they will
not communicate as a network. They do ping back and forth
and the two 98 computers connect fine. HP was no help not
Linksys. Microsoft will not help because they say HP owns
the warrenty. Can anybody help me?

Hello
Have you turned the ICF (firewall) off on the XP machine and disabled any
firewalls on the other machines that might be downloaded.

I m facing the same problem. I'm unable to network my Win
XP Pro Laptop with Win98 & WinME PCs. I alreadi tried the
option of turning XP's Internet Connection Firewall. It
didnt work. I didnt install any firewall on the rest of
the computers. BTW this network is isolated from the
internet.

Pls help. Thanks~

Its been awhile ,but, I think there is a setting on the non-xp machines
that says something about an "nt network password" I think you have to
enable it but DO NOT set a password.sorry to be so vague but I no longer
have any non xp machines.I can't remember where the damn setting is but
that is the answer.I had the same problem and that was the answer. if
you have the ntfs file system on xp then the non xp machines will not be
able to see shared folders on the xp machine.hope this helps
