During various applications etc. my computer is trying to access the A:
drive. The A: drive lights up momentarily, then shuts off and the process I
am working on continues. This happens many times and is aggravating. Was
told that this was possibly caused by my antivirus software. (Norton
Antivirus). Is this true or could there be another reason. Am using XP-Pro
and all Microsoft updates have been installed.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Indeed, it could be your anti-virus software. Check if the
scheduled scan includes A:. (it should not by default).
You could also, as a last resort, disable your A: drive in
your BIOS or in WinXP itself. But then you can't use those
ancient floppies either.

Greetings,
James
