XP 64 bit Keyboard Layouts...

F

Flex

Hi ppl,

First timer here. I just downloaded from MSDN the final one and have a
problem: It does not accpets the "old" 32 bit keyboard dlls :(
Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator comes only with a 32 compiller dated 3
years ago too. So... can someone point me to a new tool, how to convert
an existing 32 bit keyboard dll to 64 or new version of the editor
supporting 64 bits? Please, it's important... half of the people in
Bulgaria are using a keyboard not included in the windows installation...

Thanks

Contact the manufacturer of the hardware or software in
question for updated drivers or workarounds to enable their
products to operate on 64-bit editions of Windows.

Eh?
The manufacturer of the keyboard layouts is *me*, in fact my colleague,
they are created with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, but it creates
an not-compatible with XP64 keyboard layouts. Seems MS has changed them
and render all old keyboards useless, that's fine, but my question is
how to recreate a new, compatible ones? Since MS is making the editor I
should obviously ask MS but how... this newsgroup was my best idea after
digging through faq-s, technical notes, etc without any luck.

Thanks

I don't believe Microsoft has released a new version of
Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator that is compatible
with a 64-bit Windows operating system.

Well... so... what's next :)
Look, it'll became a huge problem very very soon. I have now only 2
reports for today but without this keyboard...
I can try the good old way - hex editor and endless restarts, windows
crashes, etc, but I don't think it's the right way to do it. MS has
obviously some tool to do that internally, maybe a new ver of the
creator itself, who knows. Is there a special place I can ask about
that? I know this is very specific question but since in the default
installation is missing the layout half of the people (actually more
than a half) are using, we have to recreate it asap.

Thanks for your help

Hi Flex,
I can see your dilemma, but this is a shining example of why you should
*test* new technology prior to putting it into a production environment.
The lack of 64bit drivers is one of the major reasons that you don't see
Windows XP x64 flying onto the shelves at the local stores. I wish you luck
with your endeavors.

X64 is very short of drivers for all kinds of devices. The only way it
will ever get fixed is for users to apply pressure to the
manufacturers, in this case, Microsoft and you may very well have a
long wait.... good luck!
