Hi there,
Would there be any disadvantages to choose XP Professional 64 bits
edition versus the regular 32 bits, in other words the operating
system will run all applications 32, 64 transparently w/o any
glitches?
I am thinking if I get Adobe Photoshop CS3 or other high end video
capture programs for ex. that could support 64 bits.
I would like to buy a a 64 bits machine, Dell Precision 390, dual core
2.13Ghz/1066Mhz/4MB cache.
Thank you,
T

You can only buy XP 64bit as part of an OEM purchase. Microsoft does
not "official" seel XP 64bit as a retail product. You better check
with Dell so as to see if they are still offering XP. To my
knowledge, Dell is pushing Vista on most of their offerings.

Dell is still selling computers (at least some of their line) with a
choice of either Vista or XP.

there are still a lot of issues with drivers with xp 64 bit.

vista 64 bit is a lot better in that regard.

which ever you chose, get the system complete with the software installed so you have someone to complain to if you have problems.

FWIW I bought a Dell dual core 64 Dimension C521 with XP MCE and have
kicked myself over and over for not buying a straight 32. I have
issues with the 64: Firefox has problems and some of my old 98 stuff
won't run at all.

Meanwhile on my laptop which is 32 bit with XP HE the exact same
programs purr right along.
