Hello Francois,

We have been Phaser users since Tektronix boosted the technology in
late 1990. Had all solid ink printers since the Phaser 840 and I
personally also used them very much in a digital print shop I had a
few years ago (also various color lasers). As you say these printers
are amazing. After testing the compatible ink by Media Sciences, we
have begun reselling it and, in 2003, we have been named official
distributors for Italy. In total honesty I can say the print quality
(resolution, gloss, colors) is as good as the OEMs. You may get a
slight colorshift in cyan (much better with the latest production
batches) but in normal office use it's totally acceptable and you will
hardly notice it; after all, as you probably know, these printers are
not for high end color proofing.

If you purchase from an official distributor (such as us) you also get
a warranty that covers the printer in those cases where OEM support
technicians decide to blame compatibles for print quality issues and
suspend your warranty (if they say "void" it's against the law and
against their own service policy, as you are free to use any
consumable you want). Unfortunately service is mostly provided by the
printer manufacturer's employees so they care more about their own
profits than sorting our a silly problem that maybe the customer can't
figure out. However these issues do not happen very frequently, and
when they happen we can guide the customer through the secret service
menu to do deep head cleanings, and several other front panel
procedures that usually solve the problem.

The savings when purchasing our branded ink (made by Media Sciences)
are very significant, a "FULL PACK Value Bundle" (a box of each
colour) we offer now for EURO 214.60 vs the EURO 320 of the OEMs (4 x
E 80 = E 320). 2-3 days shipping to France is around E20. If you are a
registered company we won't bill VAT. Solid Ink is always in stock.
Live chat and Skype is at your disposal, as it's real technical
support for the printer, given our 10+ year of experience with
Phasers.

Feel free to visit us or write for info. I suggest you give it a shot
if you haven't yet. I can probably get you a sample pack.

Au bien tot,

PS - btw, Tally is not the manufacturer, just a rebrander.

You mean, the late 1990s, not late 1990. I think it was 98 or 99 when
Xerox acquired it.

No, it would appear the O.P. is stating, and correctly at that, that
they have been using Tektronix Phaser (Phase-change inkjet) printers
since late 1990. Tektronix has been making Phaser "solid ink", or phase
change inkjet printers since that time or longer. I still have
advertising literature from them for the Phaser solid ink inkjet
printers from that period.

As you state, Xerox acquired Tektronix's printing division and the
Phaser name sometime after 1998.
