xbox 360 vs. Current PC tech

I'm not a MS hack, but what is the opinion of the group of how the xbox 360
will match up to current pc tech. What pc system would match up to a xbox
360 or for that matter a ps3? I'm a big sport gamer with a 3.2 p4 1gig
pc3200 and a 9800pro. I could upgrade my Vid to 850xt or go xbox 360. What
is the opinion of the group.

Does any one monitor this forum??

Maybe they're just not interested in the comparison.

"Current" PC tech will depend on what week you ask.
By the time xbox 360 and PS3 is released "current" PC tech will be
completely different, as are the games available, and type of play you will
experience on a console vs PC.

The Xbox 360 is realeased in less than a month. What's current today will be
current in a month. I've heard reports saying the GPU in the XBOX 360 is
twice as powerful as the 6800Ultra.

It's pretty amazing this thing is costing less than one high end graphics
card.

The xbox has been on the drawing board for ages, I've heard they won't be as
poweful as game makers thought :)
One month away means it is being produced already.

In any case consoles are, (most likely), subsidised. That is you are paying
close to cost for one of these machines because the console makers hope to
make their money through game sales (let's not forget the optional hardware
for these units).

I also think they will probably sell a lot more units than a high end
graphics card, and it's not like the GPU makers need to compete in this
market - they already have the contract.

Not that I am planning to buy one, but I think you will find gamers will
either decide to put their money in either their PCs or a console not both.
