My connection is ZyxelDSL Modem, to Lynksys wrt54G router, windows xp home
addition, and my xbox 360. the connection works but sometimes,My Xbox looses
the connection if my computer is on or I do something on it, it also
said,"signing out of messenger" on the xbox. I did everything I have found
online to do ,but it still does this.I have version 8 , linksys wireless
router" im using all wired connections though", and found a downgrade for
version 3, which is compatable, but it still has same problem, i would like
to only share dsl connection, and not have to use windows media center,
seeing as how its not compatible with windows xp home addition. and can
someone help me with opening ports?

Thank You for takeing the time to read this, and for any help i recieve

Not familiar with Xbox set ups but can give you "general"
recommendations.

Please give us more details on how the Xbox, PC(s) and router are all
connected. usually, you want every device (PC or "game console") to
access directly the Internet with there own IP "stream." If the Xbox
requires something running off the PC in order to access the Internet,
then you will need to double check your hardware configurations so as
to have all the required settings correctly.

I have my modem connected to my DSL port in the wall. my Modem is connected
to my Routers WAN, I Have 4 Ports on router. 1st port my Ethernet cord goes
to my computer. the Xbox360 is connected to the second port. it works for a
min. but the computer seems to trigger it to loose connection. When the xbox
360 is in router by itself it works fine, i know it is the computer, or the
connection from it to the router.
I don't know the exact settings to put this stuff on, where my computer is
not compatable i can't find any required settings to set it up. Thank You for
responding.if you need to know anything ,else let me know.

Please only concentrate on one thread! I hope this thread is the
first one this question (I saw two others!)

Since the Xbox and PC are connected by wires, you can test by:

1) Change the port of the Xbox. All four ports are usually the saem
and the current port for the Xbox can be starting to be defective.

2) If you can, change the Xbox network cable. The cable can be
starting to be "defective" if the router is not next to the Xbox.
Wires across the floor can be crushed by furniture or woalked on.

3) If you can, change the PC's network cable. Same causes as the
Xbox.

4) Router firmwares can not be used if they are not for the same
hardware version. Linksys has been known of updating the hardware to
different versions (v2, v3.) Firmwares for different versions (v2, v3)
can / should only only be used with the same version of the hardware.

5) Linksys has a lot of good FAQs to guide the set ups of standard
device connections to their router. Xbox is a "standard" device.

6) Depending on how old the Liksys router, it might be starting to
fail.

7) You may want to check with a Xbox newsgroup. Linksys is a popular
brand for home routers.

8) Usually, firmwares can not be "downgraded" (going for higher level
(8) to a lower level (3))
