If you had a choice between the X850XT PE or 6800 Ultra, which would you choose?

I have read that the X850XT PE is "the fastest" card around, yet the 6800 Ultra still manages to pull ahead in quite a few games.

Money aside, which would you choose?

I like Nvidia, but the X850 PE is faster although not by much. Also just to add, Nvidia decieded not to release a "newer" video card every 6 months unlike Ati, they instead went with SLI which is much better than slightly boosting the core speed for a "faster" card.
Id go with the 6800 Ultra

X850, for the simple reason it's slightly better.

I used to heavily favour ATI but I think ATI & Nvidia are level pegging right now.

I'd probably choose by price.

Ati cards run cooler and take less power, but that means nothing really, its all about performance!

I think the 6800 Ultra is about the same as the X850XT, so it would be down to personal preference. And seeing as Ati update there drivers to try and improve performance more often, i would have to go with the X850XT.

A 6800GT o/c'd to ultra speeds, so on paper a 6800Ultra :p. Same core, vertex shaders, pipelines everything :).

its not really going to be a gamer but if im gonna build a pc i might aswell do it properly this time, but it will be used for video encoding so the FX-55 with 2GB of RAM should be just the thing

X850XT is here today :D Just waiting for a few more parts tomorrow and then I can assemble it and tidy the network of cables that lurks under my desk.

Can't believe I will actually have a top spec PC for the first time :)

Whats the rest of the spec looking like?

I'm going to be building a new PC, i found a nice upgrade package at komplett, excllent quality components: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=109697&cks=PRL

That paired with my 6800GT, should be the business ;).

Also going to get that Case which was reviewed here not long ago (the Alpine EZ Cool G5 style) and a Hiper 525w PSU.

That looks like a excellent upgrade package! Best of everything there!

The rest of the spec is 2GB DDR 400, DVD/RW, Intel P4 3.4Ghz, 250GB Hard Drive and the rest is basically the same as I have now. I managed to do it on the cheap by buying 3 PCs from the Dell Outlet and then taking all of the good bits out to make 1 really good machine. The other 2 I'm selling back on to recoup the costs of building it - its the only way I could afford a beasty like this :D I'd have like to go the AMD route like you had I the choice of any components.
