After deciding about an AMD64 based system on socket 939, which Gfx would you recommend?
NV 6800 or RX800 based? 128MB or 256MB? GT or XT, Ultra or Pro?
I'm confused!
I'm willing to pay around 200-250 pounds...
As I decided in favor of a MSI K8N Neo2, with the Nforce3 Ultra, there is not the option of PCI-Express. It'll have to be AGP 8X... Tom's Hardware's reviews on all of the boards are not clear!

Socket 939 is nice but expensive. For the money, you could get a very fast socket 754 system which would allow you some financial flexibility to buy a really nice GFX (that extra £50 upto £300 makes a hell of a difference! :)

From reading reviews (and testing it myself).. unless you have the money to throw at a socket 939 FX-53 processor, you won't see performance increase to justify the extra you will pay for 939 over 754 (eg.. 3500+ 939 vs 3200+ 754).

Dual channel isn't in anyway as important as it was with Socket A. The onboard memory controller on the A64 sees to that.

6800GT series are particularly nice at the moment. I've got the factory overclocked (with warranty) Galaxy GF6800GT.

The 6800 Ultra is clocked at 400 core & 1.1ghz memory.

The reference 6800 GT is 350 & 0.9 ghz memory.

The Galaxy card sits at 370 & 1.0 ghx memory and flies in my A64 3200+ (clawhammer) setup :)

PCI express isn't really in the AMD market yet. Intel boards are starting to sift through with them but the performance difference is nill at the moment. Depends on how long you intend to keep your system before the next upgrade :)

I was looking at Tom's review of the 6600 GT, which was clocked 500/1000 MHz... How is that?

I actually could spend a few more bucks, but I want a Motherboard with a few fututre upgrade capablities.

go for a high end motherboard then - look to spend about a maximum of £95 for a top of the range one.

Well the best card in the world is down to choice. The benchmarks are too equal, then you got new drivers and games to benchmarks to come out.

The bets 2 cards in the world at the moment are the 6800 Ultra and the X800XT PE. In second is the 6800GT, in third is the X800Pro and in fourth is the 6800.

If you really want to be spending £350 on a graphics card, personally i would have the X800XT PE, because i've had quite a few problems in the pst with Nvidia, and my current Ati Radeon card has treated me like a king.

If you get the 6800Ultra or the X800XT PE you will have the best graphics card in the world ;).

I have chosen the MSI K8N Neo2, for 145 USD, so almost the same...

X800XT... that's an idea... Thanx

The higher clock speed doesn't make the 6600 faster. The reason is that is only has 12 pipelines (as opposed to the 6800 which has 16) and 128bit memory rather than the 6800's 256bit.

The higher clock speed is to compensate those two factors :)
