x32 programs not working on Vista X64

Mike

After booting following the latest Microsoft fixes my Vista X64 system runs
x64 programs will not run any x32 programs. I had not booted for a week or
so and I do not know what other changes the boot may have installed.
Uninstalling the fixes did not have any effect. Booting into safe mode
allowed the x32 programs to run.

Any ideas on how to get the x32 subsystem working again?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi, Mike.

Very strange! What's different about your computer from all the other Vista
x64 systems - including mine - that DO run x86 software without complaint?

Since installing the Win7 Ultimate x64 beta back in October, I seldom boot
into Vista anymore. But, just for you <g>, I did it today - and spent a
couple of hours updating it to the latest (v.650) build of SP2. I ran
Quicken (a 32-bit-only application) and WLMail in Vista, first with the
previous SP2 build, then again after rolling it back to Vista SP1, and
finally after installing the latest SP2 (and everything else that Windows
Update offered). Everything worked just as it has for the 2 years that
Vista Ultimate x64 was my "daily driver".

I've heard no one else complain that Vista x64 stopped running 32-bit
programs, so I have to ask: What's different about your system? I don't
know how much detail we need to know, but the more you tell us, the better
chance we have of spotting something.
