WXP installer unable to copy netfx.cab

I attempted to reinstall(clean install) WXP and encoutered an error
message as follows:

**************************************************
Setup was unable to copy the following file:
netfx.cab

Retry, Ignore, Exit
**************************************************

I tried installation again from the beginning but the same result, then
I copied i386 folder from the CDROM to the hard drive and initiated
installation under DOS mode but still the same result.

Then, for experimental purpose I tried clean installing WXP to a
different PC using the same CDROM and found there was no such problem.

I went back to the original PC and tried installing again and this time
when I saw the error message I chose "Igonore" option to move ahead. I
had to skip copying two more files so that the following 3 files were
not copied. BTW I could not find netfx.cab or netfx.ca_ but found
tabletpc.ca_ and mediactr.ca_ in the CDROM.

netfx.cab
tabletpc.cab
mediactr.cab

Installation process went through to the end but the installed system
may lack certain functionalities if the error message is legitimate.

Note that 1) I installed WXP to the same PC more than once before but
have never experienced this problem, 2) file name listed in the error
message is always netfx.cab, 3) my pc is neither tablet pc nor media
centre pc.

My question:

What causes the WXP installer to issue the above error message?.
Is the error message legitimate or phony?

Could anyone shed light on this matter?
