System Restore for WXP HE

Honjo

I understand that System Restore functionality is not installed by
default. I have reviewed WXP HE CDROM but could not figure out how to
install it. Could anyone help me solve this problem?

System restore "is" installed by default. You can access it via either Help
and Support or in the All Programs menu.

If you mean NTBackup:

You have to install it:

If you have a rescue disk the valueadded folder may be on
it or your XP Disk, Mine was on disk #2

Insert the XP or Rescue CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI
program

from the folder D:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP

You can get a copy here:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

In XP Home the ASR Floppy Disk does not work . It will
NOT backup to a CD. You can back up to a folder on your
hard drive then burn it to a CD. The native program in
XP will not span CD's though.

Here is how to use it;

Windows Backup Does Not Back Up to CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R

You can trick it with a packet writing program like Roxio
Direct CD & Drag and Drop (comes with Easy CD Creator )
Or Nero InCD or Sonic DLA You then use a CD ( will not
Span cd's) or DVD's (4.7+ gb) to back up to though.

You are mixing up Backup (not installed in Home, and really intended to
support use in systems coming forward from NT) and Restore - which
should be there and working.

Go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
and take the 'restore to earlier date', which will show the calendar,
with dates where there are points in bold.

Also see Control Panel - System - System Restore.

I suggest there highlighting drives and taking Settings. It uses by
default up to 12% of each drive - with big modern ones this is too much:
I suggest not over 1GB and actually use 500MB myself

REad up the FAQ about what it does:
