Is anyone familiar with startup item from the system configuration utility,
wupmon. I'm not sure if it's a windows update monitor or a malicious trojan?

The new MS beta for Antispyware has an "Advanced Tools" menu item that allows you to identify the maker and use of items on the
Windows startup list. It's called "System Explorer"

wupmon.exe is *not* windows update monitor.
