missing vhhnxeas.dll at startup

Running Windows XP w/SP1,2, & 3 installed, all MS updates current. Also
running Norton Internet Security. I picked up a Trojan last weekend and
Norton has taken carre of most fixes but at startup I get the RUNDLL message:

Error loading C:\WINDOWS|system32\vhhnxeas.dll

I have one very annoying issue that remains even though the Trojan is
supposed to have been removed and I'm thinking it must be related to the .dll
message. My Display properties doesn't work properly, I have no control over
my desktop wallpaper, my preferences always revert to system defaults upon
shut down or restart. When the system first loads my wallpaper is there but
then quickly changes to the solid color background. In the Desktop tab of
Display Properties, the Background list is greyed out as are the Browse and
Position selections. The monitor display screen remains white.

Ideas?

In retrospect, that wasn't very clear...I meant to convey that my Display
Properties dialog box depiction of the monitor screen remains white, not the
computer monitor. I have no other known problems except my Display
Properties.

Your issue is a prime example of why good registry cleaners are needed.
Don't listen to the others who say registry cleaners are "snake oil". To fix
your issue automatically, download CCleaner from here
http://www.ccleaner.com/ install it and when you run it select the registry
icon on the left to clean your registry. Let it fix all but choose to backup
when prompted. Your problem should then be fixed. Next use my Remove-it
software, it will remove that malware from your system. Choose yes for all
options when prompted. Download it here
http://pcbutts1.com/downloads/tools/tools.htm this will fix your desktop
issue.

Your a/v software, but the reference to the file was not removed from
the registry.

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the file into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and
when located, delete the reference to the file. Press F3 to continue
the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

You could click Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, click OK, click the StartUp
tab, and deselect the item(s). When you restart the computer, you will
be warned that you're running in the Diagnostic mode; click to not alert
you again, and OK out. You won't see the message again. But I think
it's best to just remove the references from the registry.

As for the Display Properties problems, try some of Kelly's fixes:

Line 142. Allow Wallpaper/Background Changes - Disable
Line 195. Restore Wallpaper Views
Line 339. XP Web\Wallpaper Defaults
Line 282. Enable the Appearance Tab - Display
Line 285. Restore All Display Tabs

You did not remove all the malware.

Your safest course of action: Download HijackThis from
www.trendsecure.com. Run it, save a log, and post the log at one of the
many sites that support HJT, such as spywarewarrior.com,
bleepingcomputer.com, and http://aumha.net -- but not here. Within a day
you'll have step-by-step advice from an expert on cleaning up any
malware infestations.

Beware of anyone who tells you "just download my program and it will
take care of everything". You're not that gullible, I hope.
