WUAU32.msi will not install on WinXPSP1 PC

I am testing SUS in our environment for patch managment.
Each time I try to install the client update to automatic
updates it says windows update automatic update requires
windows 2000 sp3 or Windows xp. I have XP SP1 and no
dice. Both the msi.dll and msiexec.exe are version
2.0.2600.1106 but I still cannot get the file to
install. What gives?

How do you point the client that is already installed then
to point to the SUS instead of the Internet?

Get the updated wuau.adm file from where you download Sus and
the updated clients. Import this into the computer node's Adm
templates in local security policy.
You will then have all four policies, instead of just the one to
set the update behavior and the one to point the client at your
Sus server.
