"wrong volume in drive" error message.

I have a box in the centre of my screen entitled, 'Windows - Wrong Volume'.
It is telling me that .... The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert
volume My Disc into drive D:. Beneath which are three options: 'Cancel', 'Try
Again' & 'Continue'.

I don't have a clue what it's on about or why it's appeared but I can't get
rid of it, no matter what I try. I looked it up on the Windows help page & it
told me what to do but I can't read it because I can't get rid of the error
message box in the middle of the screen! I urgently need to sort this out as
I've got to submit an assignment for uni online & I'm starting to panic a bit
so any help would be much appreciated indeed.

If you have a disk in the (cd or dvd) drive take it out.
