Wrong user name at logon

I am the only user, password protected, using the old Win 2000 type logon
screen. I decided to change my user name which became effective on the start
menu but the folder in "C:\Documents and Settings" has not changed and the
old user name is still present on the logon screen? Don't know how to fix
it, Thanks

Hi Ed.

Did you just change the full name of your user account, and not the actual
user name? The full name is displayed on the Start Menu, not the user name,
so if that's the only thing that's changed, it certainly sounds like the
full name was the only thing that was changed.

Secondly, the Documents and Settings\<username> folder name will not be
changed when you change the user name on your account for - I believe -
application compatibility reasons.

Yes, I changed the name through the control panel/user accounts.

The full name is displayed on the Start Menu, not the user name,

Hi Ed,

You would need to create another profile to have that changed. Changing the
name won't do it.

Right click the My Computer icon on your Desktop/Properties/Advanced/User
Profiles/Settings/Copy To (new location). Then go to Start/Run/Regedit and
navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
(Find the profile in question) and alter the ProfileImagePath.

Yes, I changed the name through the control panel/user accounts.

In that case, you changed the "full name", not the user name. The full name
is what is displayed on the start menu and the welcome screen. The user
name is what you have to type to log in on the classic logon screen.

If you want to modify your user name and other account settings, click Start
/ Run, and type CONTROL Userpasswords2

From this dialog box, you will be able to edit both the user name and the
"full name".

This won't rename your Documents and Settings folder, though.
