Wrong Drive Letter

I have purchased and installed XP professional on an existing machine that
was running 98SE. I did a clean install, formatting thedisk. However, when
I installed the OS the hard drive came up F with D and E as my CD drives. C
was assigned to a removable drive (which I did not have).

Anyway, I would like to rename the F drive to C but when I go through the
process as described in help I get a message that the system drive cannot be
renamed in Windows.

Any suggestions or am I going to have to re-install the whole thing again.

Thanks,
Neal

Why do you want to change the drive letter? F is just as good as C.

Hi Neal,

Basically, you can't. At least not without starting all over again. You
cannot reletter the system drive, nor is there anything wrong with the
installation residing on F.

If you do decide to reinstall, make sure there are no zip drives attached,
as they are known to cause this particular issue.
