At the beginning of the sp4 update I get the following
message:

The file wpnpinst.exe is open or in use by another
application. Please close the application and try again.

What is this program and why is it disallowing me to
install sp4?

Please respond. Urgent.

Try disabling shutting down your Internet Printing Service and then run SP4.
