WOW EXEC caused a General Protection Fault.....

Upon trying to download certain software, really very common software, I
receive this message: WOW EXEC caused a General Protection Fault in module
MMSYSTEM.DLL at 000A:0032. Choose close. WOWEXEC will close.

And then it doesn't let me download the software. Do you have any
suggestions? They would be appreciated.

Do you have any 16-bit applications installed? WOW Exec is a reference to a
helper application used by Windows XP to help run 16-bit apps. If you are
unsure, these would be older applications that you might have used on a
Windows 95 or older system. These would actually be pre-Windows 95
applications but they often could run in Windows 95. Check for such
applications, make sure they aren't running and make sure they aren't set to
run on bootup.
