Hi ,

I have now nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 (16MB or 32MB Video RAM) . I want
to replace it with a new , 256MB VRAM Graphics card .

Would I feel , after the Graphics card replacement , dramatic improvements
in loading Windows XP applications , such as Word , paintbrush etc. , or
only
in Image Processing programs ?

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

I doubt that you notice any "dramatic improvements," but anything that
has high graphics requirements would obviously operate more smoothly.
It'd make very little difference to Word, unless you're working with a
document with a lot of pictures.

The answer for MS Office products such as Word is no, 2D applications will
not see a dramatic improvement.
Graphics (image processing) may see some, but making changes to an image to
enhance it (using filters, etc.) is processor intensive.

It's not that you won't see some improvement, you will but dramatic not
likely as the new cards are optimized for games and not office applications.

3D applications, like games and graphic program will be benefited. 2D
applications which is what you mentioned will not benefit. Look at
adding or upping your system memory.

Pretty much just 3D games, and Photoshop. If you do things like Google
Earth, the new card would also help. Otherwise, no benefit.

Graphic cards don't affect the *loading* of any apps, although they
do affect the *rendering* of 3D images.
