After ReInstalling XPpro I receive the following on a black screen..

On a POST or Restart a "Please Select the OS to Start" appears..

"M$ Windows XP pro"
"M$ Windows XP pro SetUp"

Can I easily remove this black screen menu??

Graphically:

Use MSConfig to repair C:\Boot.ini and eliminate the dual-boot
start-up option menu. From within WinXP, Start > Run > Msconfig,
Boot.ini Tab > "Check all Boot Paths."

To perform the same repair manually:

1) Click Start > Run, Type "Cmd" and then press <Enter>.

2) Type "Cd\" and then press <Enter>

3) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini -h -r -s" and then press <Enter>

4) Click Start > Run, Type "Notepad c:\boot.ini" and then press <Enter>

5) Edit the file to removed the extraneous line, save it, and then exit
Notepad.

6) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini +h +r +s" and then press <Enter>

7) Close the command console.

MSConfig> "Check all Boot Paths"> It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for
Microsoft operating systems are OK..

While trying the manual repair, I mistyped something that resulted in
all directories and files to be +S+H+R...
I gave up, and reinstalled XPpro again...
I think the instruction you provided would have repaired the boot.ini if
I hadn't fouled it up..
Thanks anyway for the help...

No, it actually says "Microsoft Windows XP pro"
Just my shorthand of (M$ = Microsoft) like (Mr. = Mister)???
I won't do that again...

Please don't be put off by petty criticisms, I quite often (and a thousand others)
refer to Microsoft with the shorthand "M$" - it would be a shame if you had to stop
using something expedient just because somebody criticised you for it!

P.S. If you had used the "System Properties" control panel extension ("Advanced" tab
"Startup and Recovery" button) to edit your Boot.ini file, it would have removed
and replaced it's file attributes automatically.

I see it as a bit churlish or childish when people feel the need to call the
company "M$", but it doesn't really bother me, live and let live and all
that. But when people are going to quote a message and bother to put it in
quote marks and then *change* "Microsoft" to "M$" - well, they're not
quoting accurately, then. Who knows what other shorthand they might be using
if they're not bothering to type the words strictly as they appear on
screen?
