I just received a copy of this virus in my Email with Outlook express, and have
a few questions about how Outlook express handled the message. As far
as I know I have all the latest security updates installed for both win2k pro
and internet explorer 6.
For one thing - in the inbox there was no paperclip icon that showed that the
message contained an attachment! Should it not be there?
Next - when I opened the message outlook express decoded the virus payload
and wrote it to my temporary internet files folder automatically, before I even
got to see what was inside. My virus scanner caught it, but still, why did it do
this without my asking? This gives me little confidence that outlook express
was not going to do exactly what the virus maker wanted it to do and execute
the attachment too without my asking.
Am I patched as MS01-020 says, or am I not?
