Worm Blaster virus

I am trying to download the patch for my windows xp home
edition and get an error message that states. Setup could
not verify the integrity of the update.inf. Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer. can
you help?

Are YOU getting the following error when you try to install Windows XP
Service Pack 1?
"Service Pack 1 Setup Error:
Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer"
Or
YOU are trying to install the Windows XP security patch 823980 - in
response to the msblast.exe worm and you are getting a similar error
message.

I had that same problem. Got thru to MSN who said go to

windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click on Article No.
823980. Supposed to bypass this problem. I haven't done
it yet as everything is working fine and don't want to
mess something else up. By the way, I said "But they
took the windows update site down." She said this is the
one they're using now. The other went through security
site. Let me know if it works and I might do it. Good
luck.
