Worlds screwiest setup. Look here for some kicks.

Okay, I've got a crazy question for you all. I am setting
up a SBS 2000 network for a church in my community. They
don't want to buy any more than the 5 licenses, which they
really don't need. They only have 4 people on the
network. However, there is a school in the same building
who has up to now shared the same internet connection.
(They've had a huge peer to peer setup for who knows how
long.)

They would like to only have the 4 people on the New
network, but still be able to share out the internet
connection that is coming in. Is there any possible way
to do this? I think they might have 5 static IP's. Could
I split the internet connection before it goes to the 2000
Server, and set the server and the other machine to their
own IP's?

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Get a soho router: Linksys, D-Link, etc. It will share the connection to any
computer on the network that is configured with TCP/IP. regardless of
whether its in a domain or not. You'd only need 1 static IP for the router.
It can handle up to 253 connections I believe. If you need more, you will
have to either segment your lan & buy multiple routers or spring for a high
end cisco or checkpoint.

Setup the sbs server with a domain and add the 4 user's computers to it. The
rest of the computers that stay peer to peer will not be able to access the
resources on the sbs server unless they know a valid domain login & password
(which they will be asked at the time they connect to the share.)
