Working with Windows XP workstations

We recently added 2 workstations running Windows XP Pro to our Windows 2000 Server network. Although the problem is somewhat intermittent, the XP computers are generally much slower to access network programs and files. Once the program or file is located, it works fine. To test, I disabled the firewall on both. This did not help. Both machines are using TCP/IP protocol. Any ideas? Thanks

I had the same problem, take a look at your DNS entrees
that you DHCP to your clients make sure they point to your
internal DNS server and not to your ISP. It fixed my
problem.

Also disable autosensing on the NICs - specify a speed/duplex setting.
