Workgroups

Our company has different workgroups. For example admin/sales/mshome.

Up until about an hour ago, I (im in admin group) could view anything in the
sales and mshome workgroup.

Now I cannot view the sales workgroup and everyone in the admin workgroup is
the same. We can still view the computers in the mshome workgroup.

Does anyone know why this has happened??

Can the users of the computers in Sales view other computers in Sales?

Find out what computer is the master browser for Sales. Run browstat on a
computer in Sales, and post the results.

Yes they can.

You might want to throw just a little detail into your answers, we're going to
try to help you but you have to help us. Any idea what changed, just before
Admin stopped seeing Sales? Is everybody on the same physical network?

And post after my replies, please.

Network Neighborhood (where you see list of the other computers) is not
magically created. Read about the browser. This is a long article, but do your
best - it's written to help you, after all.

Now, if the Sales group is OK with seeing each other, then there's either a
problem with the master browser in Sales (not sending the browse list to Admin),
or the master browser in Admin (not receiving the list from Sales). You need to
identify the master browsers. That's where browstat comes into use. Run
browstat on one computer in Admin, and one in Sales.

The internet went down and then when it came back up thats when we started
having the problem. We are all using the same physical network we just have
different workgroups.

I wasnt the person who set this up and I dont really know anything about
networking etc, he isnt here anymore thats why I posted a message on here to
see if I could received any help.

Sales can see sales and admin can see admin just not each other. You talk
about browsers problems, could you please tell me how to run the browser on
the computer please?

We have never had this problem before and we have had it up and running for
months now, even when the internet goes down it still doesnt affect the
workgroups.
Thanks
Cara

OK, Cara.

That's a good start. Now when I cite articles for you to read, the instructions
for what I need are in the articles, or in the articles linked from there. I
use hypertext to provide assistance. Please start with this article.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/how-to-get-most-out-of-pchucks-network.html#Hypertext>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/how-to-get-most-out-of-pchucks-network.html#Hypertext

What we need is "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from 1 computer in Admin,
and 1 in Sales, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp

If the Internet went down and came up, and the problem that you're reporting
started happening, I'm going to bet that something happened to your network. I
need to see how your network is setup, and "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all"
will tell us where to start.

I had been looking through high and low for similar problem like this. It
happen at my client place and even in my home network. I am very sure
something to do with the windows update. Out of sudden, the network just not
able to share files? This incident start happen about the posting date. I
believed there will be more and more complaint about this issue..... I had
try many advise from some expert in forums, and myself is a system integrator
too.
I had done
- Firewall checking
- Antivirus such as AVG antivirus
- Guess account activate
- Netbios over tcpip
- Computer browser restart
Is anyone there can help would be much appreciated.
