Workgroups - Browsing

P

Paul

Hay there!

We have about 300 w2k and nt-clients and use workgroups - no domain.

Is it better to have many different workgroups or only one? is there one
masterbrowser in each workgroup or one masterbrowser at all? what is better
for networkperformance ?

Thx for your informations!

Each workgroup has one master browser. The more computers you have in a
workgroup, the slower network browsing will be.

With that many clients you should probably have a domain-based network
going. Administering all those boxes must make you crazy by the end of the
day.

There is a master browser for each workgroup. I would not let that dictate my network
configuration. Use as many workgroups as makes sense to organize your network. A
would make your network much more manageable in that you would have central
management of users/groups and policy. --- Steve
