Workgroup Information File

This morning I was able to make a copy of a Workgroup
Information File, SYSTEM.mdw, using the Workgroup
Adminstrator, however my copy does not seem to work
independently from the original. Any users or groups or
passwords that are entered into the copy are automatically
entered into the original, eliminating the benefit of
having two separate files.

Is this supposed to happen? How can I get the two .mdw
files to act independently, rather than mimicking each
other?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Jeremy, you shouldn't create a new workgroup file by copying system.mdw.
Instead, use the workgroup administrator to create a new one, giving it a
name different than system.mdw - you can put it in any folder you like.

In Access, you are always joined by default to some workgroup file. When
you run the administrator, it will make your new mdw file the default one to
use. Re-run the WA and rejoin system.mdw (in windows system folder), to
make it the default.

Then to launch your secure mdb, use a desktop shortcut that points to the
secure mdw to use for that session. The target would look like
"c:\path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to secure mdw"

For all other sessions of Access, it will use the standard system.mdw and
you get no login dialog.
