Wordpad XP problem with doc files that worked ok using Win98

Wordpad XP won't load doc files that I saved and read ok when I had
windows 98. Says it "can't open Word 6.0." It opens rtf files fine.
Also, got the error message "unable to load graphics conversion
filter" when trying to open a doc file I received.
I do not have microsoft Word program.

if you want to fix it, get a copy of wordpad.exe (just the one exe file) off
an older machine , like millennium. version "5.00.1691.1" dated "Thursday,
June 08, 2000, 5:00:00 PM" install it in a folder of your own, make a
shortcut and use THAT for .doc files. It STILL works on docs, and is a
WORKING fix unlike the OFFICIAL one touted here. I had the same problem you
did with NO installation of Quicken in any form, and without SP2

A pox on microsoft.
