Microsoft Word is an entirely different application.

Wordpad is free. Word is not.

There are many different ways to acquire Word. Of the legal sort, Word is
best bought as part of Microsoft Office.

Word is not available for download, at least not legally. You may want to
do a google search of this group or others as there are other free
spellcheckers and Word type programs that can be downloaded for free.

Microsoft Word is not a free, downloadable program. You may
wish to visit your favorite store that sells computer software and
purchase a copy of either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works.

Wait a minute.
This is for kids homework?...give them a dictionary and
thesaurus in book form and let them learn to use the
books. This is part of the learning process. You forgot
to ask for grammar checker. Reading some of the other
posts in these newsgroups and all the mis-spelled words
it is amazing any of these people got thru school.
My kids use the book form and are learning very fast.
Yes you are "a computer idiot"

Try a free office package:

Say good-bye to overpriced, buggy, virus prone bloatware.

Word can be purchased as part of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Works or as a
standalone product. If you browse around, you should be able to find the
standalone OEM online for less than $50.

If you can't find Word 2003, Word 2002 is about as good.

I like your advice. I have a © 1972 Webster's and a slightly newer © 1977
Roget's Thesaurus within arms reach.) You might want to look up through,
unless this word is newer than 1972.

It's a tech term designers use: "drill a thru hole" in a
piece of metal. But I know adults that can not even look
up a name in a phonebook. It's a shame they don't teach
things like this in school. They taught it when I went
to school.

Uh, good advice on the spelling and grammar checkers:

"Kids" in the second sentence should be " kids'. "

"Mis-spelled" is spelled "misspelled."

"Thru" is acceptable, but "through" is preferred.

"Learning very fast" should be "learning very quickly."

Other than these, and a missing comma or two, and maybe a period, you're
pretty much okay.

I love that technical talk. ;o) When I was a kid, we'd ask my Dad how to
spell something. He'd say, "Look it up." (Because he didn't know how to spell
whatever it was.) And we'd say, "How can we look it up, if we don't know how to
spell it?" *"LOOK IT UP."*
We also had a set of World Books that settled more arguments than I can
count. Yea, they also taught how to count out change when I went to school.

Word 2003 costs about $229. You can not download it for
free.

Microsoft Works Suite is an option. find more info here:

http://shop.microsoft.com/Referral/productInfo.asp?
siteID=11617

Works costs about $99.
Works Suite provides software for productivity,
communication, personal finances, learning and reference,
getting directions and planning trips, and photo editing
all in one package.

You can use the search function in your internet browser
to find alternatives. Simply type in__word processors__in
the search and it will take you to a gang of sites to
choose from that will give you many options and price
ranges from $30 and up.

I'm not likely to get back here again, but, if you need
further assistance you can email me at
(e-mail address removed) and I'll help all I can.

Wordpad is really just a superior note-taker, not a proper Word
Processor. Word has to be bought separately as part of the MS Office
pack, or comes with the 'Works Suite' these days as well. Consider the
'Office for students and teachers' versions, or there are other word
processors around in things like Open Office which should produce
Word-compatible files.

Incorrect. You can't download it all..at least not if you want to be
in compliance with the EULA. If you are downloading it, then you can
be sure it's a pirate version.

Wordpad is just a basic word processor that comes with Windows. Word is a
separately bought program. If you don't already have any OFFICE programs on
your machine, you can buy the latest Microsoft WORKS which, nowadays,
includes Microsoft WORD as part of the package. From the install disks, you
can choose to install JUST Word then.

WORD is included in the MS WORKS SUITE but not in the basic
WORKS package.
