Wordpad MRU

I used notepad regularly back in Win98SE but the 64k limit and no MRU (most
recently used filelist) made me switch to Wordpad.

Now in WinXP I use Wordpad and like it just fine, except for the MRU. It
only contains 4 items. Is there any way to increase the MRU? Searching
through the posts here, most people are more interested in removing/emptying
it, but you know when you're juggling several documents it's really
convenient to just click alt-f + <doc no#>.

Now why aren't I using an editor that can actually support multiple
documents like Word? I want something small and fast. That's why I'm still
stuck on Wordpad. Anyway, yeah, I want to know if we can extend Wordpad's MRU
to remember more items, say 10. Or if not, suggest a text editor you use that
is SMALL, simple, and has a nice large MRU. I don't want something with
spellchecking etc, that's bloat. I just need something that I can write text
files in.

Hmm. Downloaded the home lite version. Looks somewhat like Wordpad, opens
tabs, quick alt+nnn access to multiple open files. For the moment, I'm sold
:) Only one nitpick, I noticed it highlighted ala html an email address.
Maybe I can turn this off somewhere. I want my text files as TEXT, period. No
messing about on the part of the editor.

Thanks, it's looking great. I've already got too many tabs open, I didn't
realize I was juggling all 20+ files with Wordpad.

I've used EditPad Lite for several years and am really sold on it. Having multiple files open in tabs sure frees up taskbar space and reduces hunting through the taskbar buttons to find the right one. Unlimited undo is a big plus for me, especially when writing scripts since I can undo my own screwups much easier. I sort of like the clickable URLs, but you sure can turn it off. Click Options, Preferences, FileTypes tab, then the Syntax coloring. Make sure you have the proper file type selected when making this change, probably ..txt in most case.

You can easily set up EditPad to be the default editor for other file types also, and that makes it even easier for me to keep things organized, as I often have multiple text, script, html, etc. files open for viewing or editing at any one time.

Now, going back to Wordpad, if you need to open a .doc file type and don't have Word installed, you will still need Wordpad to view most of those since there is some special formatting involved that EditPad won't always be able to handle correctly.

Oh, no worries, I have MS Office for that kind of thing :) I only need
wordpad / editpad for quick text file handling.

It's growing on me :)
