Wordpad caused a problem and I read an article I thought was trustable on
Internet that said if I uninstalled and reinstalled wordpad that would fix
it. Some wordpads files were damaged, and now wordpad and notepad are gone.

Is there any way to fix this?
Do I have to have notepad for any reason?
Should I install another word processor? Without notepad?

What should I do? I'm sorry this happened.

For WordPad, go to the "c:\windows\inf" folder. The INF folder is hidden but
you go directly there by typing INF in the Run Dialog box. Locate the file
"wordpad.inf" and right-click to select Install.

When XP prompts you for the necessary files either insert your Windows XP
Disk or point to "c:\windows\servicepackfiles".

For Notepad, try typing Notepad in the Run dialog box on the Start Menu. If
notepad opens then create a shortcut for notepad in the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUsername>\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories"

If notepad does not open, then run System File Checker. Type the following
in the Run dialog box

sfc /scannow

If notepad still does not open then type the following in the Run dialog box

%systemroot%\servicepackfiles\i386

If the folder opens then copy "notepad.exe" to "c:\windows\system32". If you
the servicepackfiles\i386 folder does not open then insert you Windows XP CD
into the CD drive and type the following in the Run dialog box:

expand <CDDriveLetter>:\i386\notepad.ex_ %systemroot%\system32

DearWTC,

I copied all you wrote down, and I'm going to try it now, and I am very
careful doing that. I'll let you know how it worked. Thank you very much.
